Maintenance Supervisor Day Shift

This is a Contract position in York region, ON posted May 17, 2018.

Job Description

  • Proactively maintain a safe working environment focused on prevention and ensuring continued compliance with Occupational Health and Safety legislation.
  • Supporting all plant departments and overall building maintenance requirements through the supervision of both unionized and salaried maintenance employees over a three shift 24 hour operation.
  • Exercise a sense of urgency by being directly involved in optimizing Safety, Quality, and Production opportunities by demonstrating a hands on approach when needed.
  • Investigates and scope out Work Order requests.
  • Support in prioritizing, planning and scheduling work orders with Maintenance Planner.
  • Notify Scheduling of extended repairs / downtime.
  • Reviews Work Order backlog with Maintenance Manager.
  • Routinely advises the Maintenance Planner on planning related opportunities.
  • Shares responsibilities with the Maintenance Planner for collecting and maintaining all information resources needed to perform job planning without the delays associated with locating the needed information.
  • Develop and manage the annual maintenance plan addressing critical process opportunities.
  • Reviews safety considerations for the job, ensure that the equipment is locked-out before starting the job, and determines if HOT Work permits is required.
  • Accountable for the overall success of the Maintenance Planning function.
  • Receives planned work orders and reviews with Maintenance trades if needed and forwards to Maintenance Planner.
  • Responsible in assigning scheduled work to Maintenance trades.
  • Responsible in verifying and validating that work is completed per schedule.
  • Support in resolving major conflicts between Maintenance Scheduling and Production Scheduling
  • Shares responsibility with the Maintenance Planner in analyzing completed repair work and develop Preventive and Predictive Maintenance routines as required in eliminating a repeat failure.
  • Responsible for allocation of manpower resources to Preventive and Predictive Maintenance activities on Weekly and Daily Work Schedules
  • Ensure work order and PM documentation processes are in place and administered.
  • Responsible for all spare parts (critical or non-critical) stocking status.
  • Direct the organization of the plant stockroom to ensure accurate stock levels are maintained supporting plant preventative maintenance and work order requirements.
  • Support in the evaluation of investment in helping people achieve the goals vs.

    the actual level of performance attained.

  • Support in the evaluation of level of performance in relation to the understanding of expectations.
  • Support in the evaluation of level of performance in relation to the level of self-direction and responsibility.
  • Plan and coordinate plant shutdowns and major maintenance projects.
  • Manage maintenance expenditures for material and labor to conform to budget.


  • Licensed Millwright 433a or Electrician 442a with minimum 5 years supervisory experience within manufacturing environment required.
  • Experience with liquid filling and Extrusion Blow Molding machines will be strongly considered.
  • Exceptional problem solving skills and the ability to make quick effective decisions.
  • Must thrive in a fast paced, hands on environment. May require heavy lifting (minimum 60Lbs)
