Carpenter

This is a Full-time position in Queens, NB posted May 15, 2018.

We are looking for a qualified carpenter to construct wooden and other structures according to specifications with the goal of contributing to the construction and maintenance of robust and long-lasting buildings and products.

Your job will entail working in diverse settings to produce steady and functional infrastructure and products. The ideal candidate will be an individual with great hand dexterity and an eye for detail. You will also have good knowledge of carpentry materials. Working with little supervision while following all health and safety standards is essential. This is a union position belonging to CLAC Local 53.

Sectors

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to Site Supervisor through various hands on construction and site tasks
  • Compliance with company health and safety training and reporting requirements
  • Assist carpenters, masons, other trades, and specialized contractors
  • Complete all aspects of rough carpentry, parapets, backing, setting door frames, etc.
  • Complete some aspect of finish carpentry, door hardware, trim work, etc.
  • Complete general carpentry work in other divisions

    – shoring, demolition, concrete, building envelope install, etc.

  • Assisting trades people as required
  • Other duties assigned by foreman/supervisor

Skills & Experience

  • High school diploma/GED
  • Two+ years related experience
  • First Aid skills and/or certificates are considered assets
  • WHMIS, Working at Heights, Elevated Lift and other typical safety certifications are considered assets
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record
  • Physically fit and able to lift up to 50 lb.
  • Certificate of qualification-Red Seal
  • Ability to use a variety of tools and machines such as forklifts, levels, lifts, drills, grinders, saws etc.
  • Ability to read and understand building and shop drawings
  • Effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
  • Capable to receive, interpret, and act on directions in a timely and efficient manner
  • Ability to work under pressure and make decisions based on sound judgment and reasoning
  • High attention to detail
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Capacity to work both independently and under direct supervision in a busy environment
