QA Automation Engineer


This is a Full-time position in Greater Vancouver, BC posted May 15, 2018.

Are you a careful tester who’s happiest when automating scripts? We’re looking for an experienced Quality Assurance Test Automation Engineer to join our Product Development team, working closely with them to ensure system consistency as well as a positive, delightful experience for each of our customers.

Conducting thorough testing of our software to ensure quality standards are met, and functionality is aligned with specifications is the main focus of this position.

As a QA Automation Engineer, you will be testing code, identifying bugs, and documenting the testing process. You’ll collaborate with our engineers to deploy code into production release.

The successful candidate should be able to develop and maintain test suites to ensure functional and stable web applications that meet our company’s needs. You should also possess scripting skills and skills with tools that automate our testing process.

This is a full time position as part of our Product Development team in our Gastown, Vancouver office, with a starting salary based on qualifications.

​A day in the job entails

  • Collaborating with existing Quality Assurance and other Product Development team members in tackling tasks
  • Reading and understanding software specifications and requirements
  • Carrying out developer-written tests designed to produce errors and/or crash the program being tested
  • Finding opportunities to automate tests and writing automation scripts for testing
  • Detecting and reporting errors to the backend and front end teams
  • Writing and maintaining documentation to describe test plans, best practices, and bug reports that accurately documents keystrokes, error codes and any other testing results
  • Managing deployments into production
  • Verifying that operation of the software does not negatively affect the operation of other programs commonly used in concert with or alongside it on the same computer
  • Assisting with the maintenance of QA monitoring programs, including audits, controls, and other qualifiers
  • Working together with the front end team to confirm design against requirements
  • Promoting quality achievement and performance improvements across the organization

Skills & Experience

You’ll be a great match if you have:

  • 3+ years of Quality Assurance, Test Automation, or Software Development in Test experience
  • Understanding of current testing and debugging methodologies
  • Solid experience with testing HTML/CSS, Swagger, Selenium, JUnit, PyUnit, AWS, Linux, and Fabric, and RESTful APIs
  • Proficiency in creating automated unit & API test scripts (PyUnit)
  • Familiarity with XML, HTML and REST APIs
  • Familiarity with tools like GitHub, Postman, Soap API, Jenkins, Ghost Inspector, or similar
  • Ability to create and review documentation, including project plans, test procedures, and design documents
  • Critical thinking skills and a keen eye for problem identification and solution
  • Good understanding of the entire web development process (design, development and deployment) and application lifecycle
  • Strong analytical thinking skills and time management skills
  • A self-starter attitude with the discipline and commitment to meet your deadlines

  • A Bachelor’s or equivalent in Computer Science or Computer Engineering
